So I thought it would be fun to give Ginger a little “maternity photoshoot”.  I know I’m a dork, but she did look oh so lovely… IMG_7981_

Sorry for the cleavage, but it’s kind of unavoidable. She’s one of those “breastfeeding moms”.

Healing Up Nicely...

Rusty our sire is healing up nicely.  If you know or own a vizsla you probably have an idea about how much he loved all the time he got to spend in the kennel the first few weeks....

We had left him for short periods and he did great. We went to my parents for a few hours to celebrate a birthday, and came home to a pile of shredded up wrappings from his leg.  Then I noticed he had pulled out 6 or so of his staples as well! Gosh darn it.  We were going to the vet the following day for a checkup. We wrapped his leg up tight, and took him in first thing in the morning. There were no issues, they just had to re-staple the bottom of his incision. Ever since then, Rusty has had the pleasure of wearing the "Cone of Shame"

Can't wait 'til our Rusty boy is healed and can freely run, jump, and play w/out us worrying about if he'll hurt himself!

So grateful that this energetic little sweetheart is still here. I love my 4-legged cuddlebug!

Rusty We Can’t Live Without You!

Sunday night we had the worst scare of our lives! I opened the front door and Rusty slipped by me.  Usually if Rusty gets out as soon as I say “Rusty inside” he flips around and runs inside or he’ll pee on a tree in the front yard then come back.  This time, Rusty was on a mission I was yelling his name, and no response! Jeff was out by the street taking the trash out. Rusty was running full speed diagonally across our yard then driveway and into the street.  I saw a blue car speeding by, and saw it all play out right before it happened.  It was the MOST terrifying moment of my life. A scene that has been permanently burned into my brain, and has continued to play over and over in my mind the past few days. Since Jeff was right there he was able to get to Rusty and saw that there was a good amount of blood. He was quickly able to access that it was coming from his leg.  His paw was dangling. Jeff clutched his leg and could feel that the bones were completely detached. He had a compound fracture, one of the bones had broken the skin (causing the bleeding). It was sooo sad to see him like this and to hear him in pain.  I ran next door (our neighbor is a vet)  of course he wasn’t home.  I threw the kids in the car and we worked for the next 30min. to find an OPEN animal hospital. (on a Sunday this is quite the feat) I was calling frantically while driving getting phone machine after phone machine, Jeff couldn’t help because he was trying to hold Rusty’s leg together and control bleeding. Finally a man answered the other end of the line, they were an hour away!  We rushed there, it was the most stressful hour of my life.  All these horrible scenarios were playing out in our minds, and we voiced some of them.  Would he have to lose his leg? Long story short, he needed surgery. We opted for the external fixture route, considering he’s such a high energy dog, and keeping him low activity was going to be pretty much impossible.

Pre surgery x-rays…

As you can see all went pretty well with the surgery, and hopefully since he’s young he’ll be healed and back to normal in no time!

We are beyond excited to have this sweet boy home!

We’re trying to focus on the positives in this whole stressful/expensive experience. The outcome could have been much worse!  If Rusty had gotten out a second sooner he would have been hit head on and would have been killed.  We can’t live w/out our Rusty!  Perhaps the guy that hit Rusty needed a wakeup call. Maybe this will make him a more attentive driver, and maybe Rusty’s misfortune will save the life of a future child.  Whatever the reason, we have a stronger appreciation for our Rusty, AND our Ginger, and the time we have with them on this earth.  Thank you to all of you who prayed for him, and helped us out in our moment worry and chaos!

LITTER II Updates….

We truly have been so fortunate to have the best of families take our puppies home and make them one of their own.  We love getting updates and photos from each of them. We love being able to see the fruits of our labors, and the joy that these families experience  (as we have for years now) having a Vizsla in their home.  Now for the updates on the pups, we will list them in birth order.
IGOR:
We thought you guys may want an Igor update and we also finally got a family photo at Christmas to share.Igor has been an absolute joy.  He is such a lover and just wants to be doing whatever we are doing including going to the bathroom.  He had some initial problems with eating.  We had to coax him into it but now he has no problem eating. Ed has taught him to run behind him while bike riding and it is one of Igor and Ed's favorite past times.  At Christmas Ed's Neisse who is 2.5 was here and they were best friends by the time she left.  In fact Igor seemed a little sad the days following.  We were happy he gets along with children so well.  He loves to carry things around in his mouth such as his soft toys, shoes, slippers and socks.  Luckily he has not eaten any of the latter yet.  We also taught him to pee and poo in the rocks and he caught on very quick.  Such a smart boy.As for his health, the vet says he seems to be very healthy. We were just there today to get him his lepto shot and pre neutering blood work.  He weighs 33lbs. already. But it's 33 lbs of love. :)We feel so grateful to have him and just love him so much.  We feel very blessed”

Igor has turned into such a handsome boy!  His pictures capture his crazy personality so well!  His family tells me he continues to do well with his training and still loves to follow his daddy on his mountain bike.   Also they said “He also is into television. He will sit with his butt and back legs on the couch and front paws on the ground and stare at the TV. He loves car rides and to hang his head out the window.  He also has a lazy side. This winter if he knew it was really cold out he just would lie in his bed and sleep all day.  We would have to force him outside. But he did like the snow and thought it tasted good. :) He also loves to greet people with something in his mouth (I.e. a bone or antler). He almost never barks only if he thinks there is an intruder. And he would really like a ride in the UPS truck, every time he comes with a package and Igor is outside with us he tries to get in the truck.  Oh and he loves food and crumbs, we call him "Hoover" because if something falls to the ground Igor cleans it up instantly.  He is really just the best dog.  We both love him so much and he has been a perfect addition to our family.  We will probably have Vizslas for the rest of our lives.”
We completely understand and agree with that last sentiment.  We will vizslas for the rest of our lives as well.  We are so happy for Igor and his sweet little family!  Thank you for being so good to him, and being so great at keeping in touch and sharing all your wonderful pictures on our Vizsla Family Instagram (#idealvizsla)
SAVANAH:
“Savanah is a little spitfire :) The trip back surprised me a bit. Usually an animal shuts down and sleeps and shakes on their first car trip. Not Savanah! She crashed for about 2 hours after the initial excitement finally wore off a little, then it was play time and nap time the rest of the way home. No car sickness what so ever, and took her potty breaks when she was presented with them. And then she took right to the dog door as soon as we got home. I think she had a total of 4 accidents in the house, but she was basically potty trained by day 3.  Savanah and our Beta (Cockerspaniel/Basset hound mix) dog have finally warmed up to each other and play incessantly which is good. Our Alpha (Boston Terrier)still doesnt want anything to do with her, and she lets her know it verbally, but is minding her manners. I think she is mad at us too for bringing a new dog home :) Food transition was no problem, no tummy issues. She has lots of chew toys, and has taken a liking to pig ears for a chewy treat. So no issues with shoes or furniture either. All in all she is the perfect little puppy. All play, and no boundaries, and then sleeps and eats :) She has also started learning her name, and comes when called...most of the time :) Leash training starts next week after her next shots, and then obedience training after that, then she will get to start coming outside to the wilderness with me and see how she handles herself around the outdoors and gun fire.

This picture didn’t surprise me one bit, and reminded me of the many we took of her while she was still with us! Always laying in the funniest positions, such a silly little girl!

We’re always so excited when a family tell us they will be hunting with their Vizsla.  It’s wonderful when they get to be used to their full potential.  I’m so excited to hear how she’s done in the field. Savanah is another lucky Vizsla with a wonderful family!

MURPHY:
Murphy’s family is  another one that is very actively involved with INSTAGRAM #idealvizsla. He gets out all the time, and really gets to explore!  Mr. Murphy has a family whose love for him is so evident!
“You guys are really doing something special, you would not even believe how many compliments Murphy receives daily just on his appearance. And I just wanted to pass along the other compliments people make about how "we must have had a great breeder". And then of course we always mention how great you guys are and the blog you keep and people are so impressed.  We were wondering when the you will have your next litter and if we could make a deposit now for a little girl. Please let us know if you will plan for another litter and if we might be able to put a deposit down. Can't wait to hear from you and the other families”.

From videos posted on INSTAGRAM #idealvizsla it’s very clear this is a well-behaved boy, so glad our families take their puppy’s training seriously!
ASPEN:
Aspen’s momma is a world class marathoner.  She came to us wanting a good family dog, but also one she could train with.  I think they’ve been very happy with their little girl.  Aspen is definitely getting the exercise a Vizsla needs and her energy burned!
“Aspen is doing great!  She has been on a few runs with me (after getting the vet's approval) and is incredibly fast!  She is hardly even phased by it!  We are still working on potty-training and chewing. She loves the dog park and is very social. She is definitely a part of the family”

I can’t get over how much little Aspen reminds me of our own Ginger!  You can just feel her sweet spirit and affectionate nature through her photos.  This family loves on this sweet girl., and we couldn’t have wished for a more perfect fit for both parties.
Isabel (IZZY):
In our experience Vizslas love kids and this family has a couple.  I just know that little Izzy is getting showered with attention, love, and play!  In our first conversation with Izzy’s family they just resonated very well with us, and you could tell they had such big hearts, and would be able to give Izzy all the love and approval she could ever need or want. We love to hear how the puppies transition into their new homes…
“Izzy did so well on the car ride home, we couldn't believe it! She didn't get carsick and everytime we stopped, she pottied outside! She has only had one accident and that was when we got home and brought he straight into the house. We tried to kennel her in our bedroom and she really cried, so I caved and Izzy, Jill and I all slept in our spare room. Jill is still a little unsure about sharing, but they are beginning to play a little. I will keep in touch! We love our little Izzy!”

“Izzy is doing so we well!!! She is a wonderful addition to our family!” Screen shot 2013-06-27 at 8.59.01 AM “Izzy is such a good, happy girl. She adds so much to our family! Here are a couple of pictures, I will try to get a few more good ones. She is beautiful!” IMG_2953

Izzy looks like a pretty good mix of Rusty and Ginger. In the pictures I could see that she has a nice big backyard to run around in, and she looks healthy and happy.  What more can you ask for?!
DUKE:
Duke’s daddy did alot of research and really thought about the choice to get a Vizsla. Everyone told him it was the perfect breed for him.  He was hesitant, but when he decided to take the plunge he assured us he was all in and dedicated to this pup.  We love that he took this decision so seriously.  It is so important to us that these pups get families that are prepared and dedicated to the success and care of their pup. Thanks Don for being so sincere! So happy Duke has you and your crew.
photo
“Hi Ingrid. Well, he whined quite a bit the first night in his crate and did have an accident probably nerves. We are a challenge to each other for sure but we have not allowed him on the couch or in bed and it makes it more difficult with this breed. He follows me everywhere I go and was sitting on command the first day. He walks well on the leash after a few tries and we have enjoyed getting him out a couple times a day in the local park. Duke wakes up and yelps at 1:00am and 4:00am every morning and we take him out to potty. We have many toys for him but he is really a terror on my coffee table chewing the legs. Any advise on chewing furniture I heard ammonia mix might stop this behavior if sprayed on things? He did pee in the house 3 times so the number of mistakes go up but he always goes when we take him out which is all the time. I think he will come around on potty but chewing things is our concern. Any help would be greatly appreciated and you guys did a great job of preparing them for this new journey. Thanks”

Duke’s first boat adventure!  Looks like he’s relaxing in style and keeping cool!

Funny video Duke’s family sent. We could totally relate, as Ginger and Rusty have been known to react similarly to things.

“Duke is doing great and starting his intermediate training Monday. He was by far the smartest in his beginner class and made me proud. We have had a few moments of frustration but I have to remind myself it's a puppy. I hope everyone is doing well with their new friend and would love to see a few pictures of the other dogs if you get a chance.”
Smartest in his class! That’s what we like to hear. Duke has got some great loved ones in his corner, and so glad to hear he’s excelling.  Vizslas are such smart animals. Training is the best thing for their happiness/success, and everyone’s sanity.
Dang, Ginger and Rusty make some good looking pups! Both Litter’s I and II have been exceptional, and have joined such wonderful families. Thank you so much for the quality of life and love you share with these pups. We are excited to expand OUR Vizsla family this August. Ginger is due the first week of the month. Things are about to get busy, and so fulfilling at the same time. We love what we do!   I will be posting about the next litter soon, so stay tuned!
